Stewart Calvert

Stewart McBrayer Calvert, Jr. ("Mack"), 59, passed away at his home in Versailles on December 31, 2017. Mack was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, teacher, coach, and friend.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Stewart McBrayer Calvert in Owenton, Kentucky on December 25, 1958, Mack was the oldest of four children. Mack spent his childhood in Versailles, Kentucky and graduated from Woodford County High School in 1976, where he played on the tennis team and was an excellent student. Mack went on to graduate from the University of Kentucky as well as Kentucky State University, earning his Bachelor's degree in Communication and Master's degree in Education, respectively.

Mack worked as a 6th grade teacher for Woodford County Schools for 21 years, and coached basketball at Woodford County Middle School for several years. Mack was also the "Voice of Woodford County", providing radio commentary and announcing for Woodford County sports games for 36 years.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to the Coach Mack Calvert Memorial Scholarship Fund by checks made payable to Woodford Co. Schools, 330 Pisgah Pike, Versailles, KY, 40383.

Prior to his work in education, Mack also served for 15 years as a sports photographer and editor at The Woodford Sun newspaper. He was a DJ for WQXE in Elizabethtown for two years, and was a sports broadcaster and DJ at WJMM in Versailles for many years. He also provided sports broadcasting for Georgetown College on occasion.



Mack is survived by his wife of 36 years, Sheila; his four children, Katie Reisner (Tyler), Landon Calvert (Katie), Sommer Calvert, and Emmalee Calvert; his two grandchildren, Chelsea Reisner and Brady Calvert; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Stewart McBrayer Calvert; his siblings, Tony Calvert (Debbie), Jeff Calvert (Jan), and Jenny Smith (Eddie); and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
