Kizzie Payton

Kizzie Sasser Payton, of Frankfort, was born September 17, 1935, in London, Kentucky and passed away May 5, 2018 in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
She was the daughter of the late Rev. R.E. and Maud Estep Sasser. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert F. Sasser (Elizabeth), Hugh Calvin Sasser (Betty) and John E. Sasser (Heidi); and one sister, Romey Peavler (Phillip).
Mrs. Payton received her undergraduate degree from the University of Louisville and graduate degrees from Murray State University. She was an educator and counselor for over fifty years. She served as a delegate to the First International Women's Year Conference and was active in all areas of Human Rights. Throughout her life, she was a leader in many professional and social organizations.
She is survived by her husband, Ross B. Payton, and two sons, Randy Cantrell (Holly) of Oak Ridge, Tennessee and Dr. Andrew Payton (Alison) of Los Angeles, California, and one sister, Elizabeth Elmore (William). She leaves four loving granddaughters, Courtney Cantrell, Jahnney Cantrell, Jourdan Cantrell and Hayden Cantrell, as well as several nieces and nephews.
