Jean Johnson

March 5, 1924 — September 7, 2017

Jean T. Johnson, 93, formerly of Frankfort, KY, died Thursday, September 7, at her residence in Oxford, MS.
A native of Frankfort she was the daughter of the late John Talmage and Elizabeth Merchant True. A sister, Florence Katherine (Kitty) True, preceded her in death.
She is survived by her husband of almost 56 years, James M. Johnson, son Russell Talmage (Tal) Johnson, (wonderful daughter-in-law, Lynnette) granddaughters Alexandria Talmage and Samantha True Johnson, all of Oxford, a sister, Raynelle T. Ewing, Hampton, VA, one niece and two nephews.
Jean graduated from Georgetown College in 1946 and taught school in both Franklin County and Frankfort Independent School Systems. A member of First Baptist Church, Frankfort, at the time of her death was the longest tenure member of the congregation and was a long time teacher in the nursery and preschool departments. After retiring from the educational field, she joined the office staff of the late Dr. W. H. Rush, Sr. as office manager. She was an avid reader of the Bible, that she read daily with follow up from a devotion guide. Knitting became a favorite hobby for her, turning out beautiful items and in later years became a therapeutic activity that kept her hands and mind occupied until the last few months of her life.
Funeral services will be held Thursday 6 p.m. at LeCompte Johnson Taylor Funeral Home. Dr. David Hinson will officiate. Visitation will be held Thursday 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Frankfort Mission Clinic, First Baptist Church, 201 St. Clair St., Frankfort, KY 40601.
