Obituary for James "Jimmy" Smith

Frankfort – James “Jimmy” Griffie Smith, age 91, passed away at home Saturday, June 29, 2019. Services will be held at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3, 2019. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Military Honors conducted at the gravesite by the VFW Post 4075. The family will receive friends at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 2, 2019, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Jimmy was born on September 8, 1927, to the late Hartford Allen and Ninnie Frances Howard Smith. He proudly served the Frankfort community for 25 years as a police officer retiring as Captain in 1979, and in addition, worked as retired at Farmer’s Bank and was a Special Deputy Sheriff for the Franklin County Sherriff’s Office. He enjoyed being active, whether it was trips to the store or dinners with his beloved wife. Jimmy’s life was dedicated to his family, being the support and influence for his children and grandchildren leading them to be the amazing people they are today. The depth of Jimmy’s character showed through his calm, cool, and collected demeanor to his family, friends, and the community he served, and with a loving, caring heart, always holding a special places for children and people in need.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Lois Lee Smith; children, Rhonda and Troy Woody, and Denise Smith, all of Frankfort; grandchildren, Brendon Woody (Lisa) of Lexington, Lindsey Fitzgerald (Brian) of Frankfort, Brittany May (Kelly), of Frankfort, and Brooklyn Hellard, of Frankfort, and great-grandchildren, Kylie, Kinsey, and Kourtney Woody, Addison, Lauren, and Kendall Baker, Andrew Fitzgerald and Lillian May.
Serving as pallbearers will be the Frankfort Police Department Officers.
